IWC – Recycling Information

Information provided from Isle of Wight Council Waste & Recycling

Hark! Concerned about not recycling properly?

Here are some top tips for recycling commonly wasted paper and card at Christmas in the right way:

Gifts galore
• Christmas cards that don’t have glitter on are recyclable (glitter causes issues in the recycling process as it can’t be removed). So remember to tear off any glitter sections or non-paper items like badges and batteries.
• With wrapping paper and gift bags there is the super handy scrunch test: if you scrunch it and it doesn’t spring back, then it can be recycled – sorted!
• Cardboard packaging, including that from online shopping, can be recycled. Simply flatten to save space and remove any plastic or polystyrene.

A little goes a long way
• Toilet roll tubes often get forgotten but it’s easy and worthwhile to recycle them. If everyone on the Isle of Wight recycled two toilet roll tubes over the Christmas week, it would save enough energy to power the St Mary’s Hospital for one day!

Ashey Road Update from Southern Water

We’re writing to update you on the water main replacement work in your area.

We’d like to thank everyone who attended the public drop-in event at Smallbrook Stadium on October 12 and for all their feedback.

Another public drop-in event, which will focus mainly on our work along the northern section of Ashey Road from Smallbrook roundabout to West Street which is due to start in January 2018. This will be held at Ryde Social Club, Adelaide Place, Ryde on Thursday 7 December from 4pm to 7pm.

Our work has started at the southern end of Ashey Road and will be progressing northwards towards to Ryde. Once we reach the northern end of Ashey Road, work will continue along a short section of Swanmore Road then along a section of West Street, finishing at the junction with A3054 Queen’s Road.

We are working up to 7 days per week, but may not be visible at all times to get the work completed by summer 2018.

Working in Ashey Road, we will be doing all we can to minimise disruption as we are able, with a rolling-road closure and traffic diversions in operation.

The work along Swanmore Road and West Street will then be carried out under temporary two-way traffic lights, allowing traffic to continue to use these roads.

Access for residents and businesses within our area of work will be maintained at all times.

We would urge all road users to take notice of the road closure and diversion route signs while we carry out this vital work.
